On May 29 I penned an entry on how I’d spend my summer vacation. The feeling of having the collar removed and being free of the leash of responsibilities had me bouncing and fidgeting and looking forward to the day I could run from the schoolhouse and enjoy my freedom.

Several weeks ago I did just that...ran from the schoolhouse and enjoyed my freedom. Unfortunately, the collar and leash have been slipped back over my head and my freedom is now restricted. Not something I relish, but a reality. My summer is over, and it’s back to a different kind of life. For two weeks I’ve been dabbling at going back to the salt mine, tomorrow it’s officially back to work.

In my earlier entry I scribbled some things I was looking forward to during the brief summer truce. I’m not wasting time here telling you what I didn’t get done. Remember another entry: Someday Isle, a look at my impressive ability to procrastinate? Well, I did my share of procrastinating. I probably even borrowed from your share and used it, too.

We did, however, spend many enjoyable days on the water. But, just as we do at the end of each season, we’re thinking we didn’t get in enough play time at the lake. We still have a lot of pleasant weather left and several weekends before the boats go into dry dock, and we’ll make a run for it every chance we get between now and October.

No major traveling was included in the summer, but I made a couple of three-day trips around the state. Both trips involved my cohort in crime--diva--and both will be the bedrock of more “This is a another fine mess, Ollie” entries. Oh yeah, we managed--with very little effort--to get our butts in a wringer once again.

Now it’s back to setting an alarm, putting on real clothes and shoes, dealing with co-workers (75 percent of whom I have little patience for) and trying to accomplish and catch up on as much around here today as possible. A consequence of living on Someday Isle!

Ten months. Ten long months and I can slip from the collar and leash again. I’m already looking forward to it!
