2003-03-03 - 11:01 a.m. It’s Monday, and the first thought in my head this morning when I woke up was: “Ahhhh shee-it!” Not an uncommon Monday morning thought, ahhhh shee-it is generally the first thing on my mind every Monday morning. All things seem to be exaggerated on the first day of the workweek. The blast of the alarm is even more piercing and annoying; five a.m. seems so much earlier than on other days of the week, and the sun is sluggish and slow to rise. The first pair of slacks out of the closet hasn’t been ironed, and my loafers need polish. The car’s gas needle is flirting with empty, the heater warms at a snail’s pace and McDonald’s coffee is weak and lukewarm. The heat in campus buildings is automatically set back to frigid for weekends and offices are like igloos on Monday mornings. Same chilly routine this morning, except I was locked out of my office and spent the first 30 minutes trying to locate our maintenance worker so he could unlock my door. When I finally did find him he didn’t have a key to my office. After another 15 minutes we found a key in the medicine cabinet in the front office. Originally, I was to be enjoying myself at Tan Tara Resort at Lake Ozark today and tomorrow—and yesterday—but a wrench got tossed in the works, and I’m currently fuming and stomping around the workplace. My ill temper of yesterday has grown ten fold. And the sun’s still not shining! Mostly, to make today a better day I would need to redo some things. Getting up on the right side of the bed tops the list.
