2003-09-20 - 8:22 a.m. Good Bye For This Season This little fellow will be leaving this area in the next week or so.
Actually, males leave first on their journey south, so this guy is gone. No, I didn’t take this picture; I borrowed it from a Midwest government site. My feeders and flowers have been thick with females loading up on energy to make the trek to warmer climates. Some will travel over 600 miles non-stop over the Gulf of Mexico before arriving at their winter digs in Central America and Mexico. The sky was also thick with Monarch butterflies last night. They’re traveling south, too. A sure sign fall has arrived in Missouri.
